Kailasagiri is one of the most sought after tourist spot in Visakhapatnam which was known as Thomas' Folly during the colonial era. The saying goes that no trip to Visakhapatnam is complete unless you pay a visit to Kailasagiri meaning the “Abode of Lord Shiva”. The hill ranges all comprising is called as Kailasagiri due to the overwhelming and magnanimous statue of the Celestial couple Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvathi.
Located at an altitude of 130m, Kailasagiri is located on a picturesque hill and is one of the most outstanding spot in the city. Overlooking the sea with lush green parks and gardens, the hill is spread across a wide area. Surrounded by the two famous beaches, Ramakrishna and Rishikonda on one side and the hill extensions on the other, the location is a hang out place amongst locals and tourists.
Major Attractions in Kailasagiri Hills
The 40 Feet tall Shiva-Parvathi statue and the areas around are illuminated completely giving a majestic view and could be seen from any part of the city. With a diameter of 10 feet, the Floral Clock is another attraction in the city. The frontal grounds when looked from a distance resemble the shape of the frontal part of a ship and hence the tip point is called as the Titanic View point.
Para gliding points are available at the altitude of 130 Meters and provides coaching for basics of gliding. The eco-tourism park- Kambaalakonda, is another attraction of the city which is a must see place. Narasimha Swamy Temple at Simhachalam near the city limits is a unique and famous temple in the state.

Andhra Pradesh govt. with Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation and VUDA are working on adding more attractions for Tourists and visitors and fill their minds with fun and excitement. The conceptualized attractions include the Revolving restaurant and Butterfly Park. The toy Train runs for a distance of 2.5 Kilometers on the Kailasagiri Hill range and gives a chance to the visitors to see the entire Visakhapatnam from the top.

The winter months of October to March offer pleasant climatic conditions and the best time to visit the Kailasagiri Park and Visakhapatnam.
